Position: Journey Lineworker (Full Time Role)

Location: Atwater, CA

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Lineman Foreperson, the Electrical Lineworker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead, underground, and sub-surface electric transmission and distribution systems. This role involves working at heights, handling energized equipment, and ensuring safe and reliable power delivery across the utility network.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Maintenance:

• Build and maintain transmission and distribution circuits, substations, streetlights, transformers, capacitors, and associated equipment—both overhead and underground.

Field Operations:

• Climb poles and towers, perform live-line work using rubber gloves or hot sticks, terminate cables, operate equipment (presses, ventilators), and trim trees near power lines.

Service & Troubleshooting:

• Respond to outages, connect/disconnect services, test customer systems, reconstruct lines, and perform phasing and energization of new/rebuilt circuits.

Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure safe work practices aligned with OSHA, NEC, California G.O. 95/128, and utility regulations. Maintain tools and site cleanliness. Perform traffic control and participate in system switching.

Teamwork & Supervision:

• Work independently or as part of a crew. May supervise and train apprentice lineworkers and participate in Underground Service Alert programs.

Required Qualifications:

• Education & Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Recognized Journeyman Electric Lineworker status via I.B.E.W. or equivalent (e.g., 3.5+ years of training/experience or completion of CA-NV JATC program).

Licenses & Certifications:

• Valid California Class A Driver’s License
• Rubber Glove Certification
• Pole-Top & Bucket Rescue Training
• HAZWOPER (40-hour) + annual refresher
• First Aid/CPR Certification
• Forklift Certification
• DOT manifesting and hazardous energy control training

Core Competencies & Skills:

• Deep understanding of electric utility systems and field equipment
• Skilled in energized line work, confined space operations, and equipment handling
• Proficient in reading plans and using work order systems (Microsoft Suite, etc.)
• Strong communication and safety-first mindset
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, perform physically demanding tasks, and respond to emergencies
