Job Description

The Upper Valley Waldorf School in Quechee, Vermont, an independent Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 school committed to the principles of Waldorf Education, has an immediate opening for an experienced, outgoing, collaborative School Administrator .

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the School Administrator holds a whole school perspective by supporting faculty initiatives and programs, providing leadership to the administrative staff, and working collaboratively with various individuals and groups to integrate the mission and vision of the school with all aspects of daily operations, as well as guiding UVWS toward a sustainable future. The School Administrator brings strong management skills to the evaluation of current plans and programs, engaging both staff and stakeholders in the achievement of strategic goals and objectives. As a member of the Leadership Council, the School Administrator serves as the primary contact for parents within the scope of our Communication Model, for clarification or conflict mitigation on issues related to daily operations, policy, procedures and legal matters. The position serves as the link between the school and public agencies.   

The School Administrator will bring a personal commitment to Waldorf school philosophy, demonstrating knowledge of administrative and educational principles, techniques and methods. Knowledge of effective school administration, including finance, budgeting, personnel administration, and facility management will be combined with the ability to interact effectively with community groups, private and public agencies, parents and the general public. The School Administrator will bring an inspirational focus to the future of UVWS by maximizing the utilization of programs and facilities to increase new earned and contributed revenue streams, while honoring Waldorf school values and practices. They will place a high value on building relationships internally and externally and possess superior interpersonal and communication skills. The selected candidate will be a strong partner to the Board, faculty, staff, parents, students and community stakeholders, ensuring a vibrant future for UVWS. 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE  

  • Leadership: Organizes and motivates individuals to accomplish goals while facilitating a sense of order, direction, and active participation among a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Goal Achievement: Works collaboratively with Board, faculty and staff to set realistic and attainable goals and prioritizes activities to meet objectives. 
  • Decision Making: Welcomes the ideas of others and utilizes effective processes to make decisions while creating clear communication strategies. 
  • Problem Solving: Works with various stakeholders, competing demands, and limited resources creatively and flexibly in support of the school’s mission. 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS  

The successful candidate will have a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in administrative, managerial or possibly teaching roles in a school organization, involving responsibility for the planning, organization, implementation and supervision of varied work programs. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a relevant advanced degree is preferred. Completion of Waldorf training or willingness to learn about Waldorf education principles and practices is required.
