Job Description

Job Summary:

The Skilled Laborer in commercial construction performs a variety of specialized tasks requiring hands-on expertise and technical knowledge to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This role may involve assisting with electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or demolition work, as well as operating specialized tools and equipment. Skilled Laborers are responsible for interpreting plans, preparing materials, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards on-site. Their work is critical to support skilled tradespeople and contributing to the overall success of commercial construction projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled construction tasks such as framing, drywall installation, concrete work, and minor carpentry.
  • Operate power tools, machinery, and specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with layout, measurements, and preparation of work areas based on project plans.
  • Interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and work orders to complete assignments accurately.
  • Support project supervisors in coordinating on-site labor activities and mentoring general laborers.
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow all site safety protocols and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Report progress, issues, or delays to supervisors in a timely manner.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools and understanding construction techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to work in various conditions.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience (1–3 years) in construction or related skilled trades.

Physical Requirements:

The employee may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift, carry, pull, grasp, climb, crawl, crouch, sit or bend over for periods without relief. The employee must be able to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds as needed. Employees in this position must be able to climb ladders and stairs to access platforms and scaffolds, as well as walk around indoor and outdoor job sites with distances up to one mile on uneven, paved, gravel, dirt, or sandy surfaces. Employees must be able to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, and landings. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and the ability to adjust focus
