Construction Inspector I – Water/Wastewater Infrastructure (Virginia, Statewide Travel)

$60k–$70k annually + Full Benefits | Direct Hire

Position Overview

A leading water and wastewater utility company is seeking a Construction Inspector I to oversee infrastructure projects throughout Virginia. This role ensures compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and company standards, while supporting quality control across multiple sites statewide.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect and monitor the installation of water and wastewater mains.
• Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
• Maintain accurate daily inspection reports and as-built documentation.
• Enforce job site safety practices and ensure OSHA compliance.
• Act as a liaison between the utility provider, contractors, and local municipalities.
• Identify and resolve on-site issues, reporting progress to project management.
• Submit timely documentation to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field preferred.
• Prior experience in construction inspection or related role; knowledge of water/wastewater systems a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for frequent statewide travel.
• OSHA 10-hour certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, safety protocols, and technical drawings.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Working Conditions

• Field-based position with outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Light to moderate physical activity, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
• Frequent statewide travel, including potential overnight stays.
