Position Overview

Our client, Deepwater Credit Union, is a trusted financial institution located in Salem County, New Jersey, serving its members with integrity, compassion, and community-driven values. As the only credit union in the county, Deepwater has long been a cornerstone for local residents, offering personalized financial solutions and a true sense of belonging.

Deepwater Credit Union is seeking a forward-thinking, growth-oriented Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization into an exciting phase of strategic expansion and community development. This is a unique opportunity for a collaborative and mission-driven leader to help shape the future of a well-established credit union while broadening its reach into neighboring counties.

As CEO, you will guide the Credit Union’s evolving strategic direction, with a strong focus on regional expansion, innovative services, and an exceptional member experience. You’ll work closely with the Board and internal teams to drive initiatives that reflect a future-focused perspective, while maintaining the personal, community-centered service Deepwater is known and respected for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizational Leadership: Provide strategic vision and operational leadership to ensure financial stability, regulatory compliance, and service excellence.
  • Staff Development & Culture: Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented workplace culture, with a focus on team development, retention, and succession planning.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement long-range strategies focused on regional growth, market expansion, and brand visibility. Identify and pursue opportunities to expand services into new counties and growth markets.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the Credit Union in both current and new service areas, building partnerships that support multi-county community presence and reinforcing the organization’s role as a values-based financial leader.
  • Regulatory, Financial Oversight & Cybersecurity: Ensure compliance with industry regulations, manage financial health, and oversee budgeting, reporting, and forecasting processes, while integrating financial cybersecurity best practices to safeguard sensitive data, prevent fraud, and ensure regulatory adherence in digital financial operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven leadership experience in a credit union, especially in a smaller or regional setting.
  • Strong financial and regulatory knowledge, including budgeting, audits, and NCUA compliance.
  • Ability to lead multiple departments (operations, lending, compliance, HR, etc.) and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage staff, board, and the community.
